0 for 2

A couple things I wanted to throw out there prior to bed.

First, I've officially signed up for too many fantasy football leagues this year. After completing my latest draft last night, I've come to the realization that by signing up for all these leagues I own about half the players in the NFL. There is one benefit to this, and one potential benefit.

For those of you who play fantasy football know, when you are in a league, you end up rooting for players and teams that you'd never normally root for. Example: In my one league, I have Westbrook, McNabb and the Cowboys defense. This sucks. When the birds play the girls I'll want McNabb and Westbrook to get as many points as possible leading them to an Eagles win, but as you know, it'll come at the expense of my fantasy team defense. Oh how difficult life can be. Here lies the benefit to being in so many leagues. Since I own basically every player in the league, all unnecessary rooting has basically been negated. Now I can go back to rooting only for the Eagles.

The potential benefit to being in this many leagues is simply that I stand a better chance of winning some cheddar... not that I needed better odds.

The other thing on my mind is this stupid upcoming election. Damnit!!! What happens if you don't like any of the candidates? I love voting, as I feel everyone should... But I don't want to cast a vote for either of the two shit parties. Who's going to be running as an independent?

I have serious concerns with both pairs running.

Ok, I'm going to try to keep this as brief as possible so as not to bore you to death, and so that I can actually go to sleep sometime tonight instead of sitting here typing until my fingers bleed.

As a person, I really like McCain. From what I can tell, he seems like he has a good head on his shoulders. I feel like he'd be able to make rational decisions necessary to move this country in the proper direction. Though I'm registered non-partisan, I typically consider myself to be slightly more of a democrat than republican. Either way, I'm not one of those people who votes straight ticket no matter who's running (I hate it when people vote straight ticket, voting for people whom they've never even heard of and know nothing about, yet feel the need to help place them in control of having a say in how we run our lives... stupid). Anywho, I feel like this past year McCain has sort of moved himself slightly more right than he was in the past. I'm hoping that if elected, he'll resort back to his more moderate ways. Hopefully he's only making himself more likable to the right wing folks to get the nod for the republican nomination. We'll see.

My main concerns with McCain are the obvious ones. His health, both mental and physical make me nervous to cast my vote for him. With his pick for VP, the oil-loving Palin, I find myself scared to give McCain my nod just for the simple reason that if he croaks, this nobody would be our president... No thank you. This lady is too inexperienced, has no relevant political background, and has way too many question marks next to her for me to have any confidence in her to lead the US. (I also don't like the fact that her husband is in the oil industry up in Alaska, she's all about drilling in the Alaskan Wildlife Refuge, and she was apparently involved in some group called the Alaskan Independence Party who wanted Alaska to secede from the US. If she wanted out of the US, why would I want her to be our Pres?). Plus, how can McCain not be somewhat mental for being held as a POW?

Obama, wow, I just don't know how he's risen as quickly as he has... Oh wait, I do... Because he's young, black, attractive, educated and well-spoken... making him a media darling. I just can't buy into it. There's something about him that I don't like.

It seems to me like he's just going to be another George Bush. How can I compare him to Bush? Easy. He'll simply be another hollow shell, a puppet controlled by whatever groups and individuals whose pockets he's got his hands in. He's risen too quickly for my liking. I don't like him for one of the same reasons I don't like Palin, he's just too inexperienced to be our leader. Guess that's why he chose the Senator of the amazing huge and awesome state of Delaware. Wow, Joe Biden... awesome. He just screams asshole. I swear, we're looking at Bush and Cheney running this country all over again.

Where is Obama going to lead us? He's thrown out no true plans for reviving our economy, no plan for resolving some issues in the middle east (Which is the furthest thing from an easy task as you can get), and has really brought nothing to the table aside from a pretty face and some well spoken speeches.

I just wish I knew Obama's agenda... you know he has one, they all do. The only good thing about those that have been in the spotlight for a little longer is that their underlying agendas are often better known.

I can't see this man leading our country out of the 'funk' it's been in and getting us back on track. Maybe I'm wrong, but I just don't like him.

If anyone wants to chime in, feel free to write an extended comment or give me a shout on the phone. I love talking about this and getting other people's opinions. The more we discuss, the more informed we become.

Also, please don't just sit there and listen to all the he says she says bullshit that's presented every night on FOX News and CNBC and all those shit networks. There's more informative and more reliable sources of information out there. Hit up BBC, the Times, the Post or anything other than those stupid, ignorant, money-grubbing, ratings obsessed talking heads.

Annnnnnd, I'm done for now.

Dude, I hear ya. Listen, both the democrats and the republicans have some problems, none of them are perfect by any means. If you want to know what I think about the economy, war in Iraq, heathcare, government spending, etc you can ask me when I see you in like 45 mins. But here is the real dealbreaker for me. Listening to Republicans social conservative bullshit makes me puke a little bit in my mouth.

If you don't like Abortion than just don't have one, simple enough. I thought you were for small government and not being told what to do so why do you want the gov to make it illegal for you to choose?

Teaching Creationism and not evolution in schools, are you fucking kidding me!!! Dude, your a 'Fucking Geologist', you know about this shit.

Gay Marriage, who the hell cares!! I don't understand why Frank and Joe cant get married if that's there thing, I most certainly don't give a shit.

The list goes on and on but I don't have time to touch on every issue. Perhaps Ill write a post about it sometime soon, just thinking about it gets me fired up. Until then, call your Mom and have her talk some sense into you boy.

John McCain voted with george bush 90% of the time...you want to talk about another "george bush"? McCain is your man.

Obama does have a comprehensive economic plan, its on his website, and it includes a serious cleaning house of alot of american government. Obama also is more moderate than you think, for example, he's pro 2nd amendment (pro-guns for people)

and yeah, he is extremely well educated...a good education is a very good foundation.

if you are really going to vote, I SERIOUSLY suggest you actually learn what each candidate is promising america. Both candidates have outlined many of their promises on their websites.

Don't sit there and watch the today show and think stupid shit like "obama is just a media darling" and "mccain is a nice guy"

this election is waaaay too important for superficial shit like that.

and finally, yeah, you are a fucking geologist, both McCain and Palin are admitted CREATIONISTS...Palin is a fucking YOUNG EARTH CREATIONIST.

that is reason enough that they should be barred from public office. and if you vote to put someone in one of the most powerful positions in our government who has absolutely no understanding of basic high school biology or 101 geology class...well, thats retarded.

Here's Obama's agenda:

click on "Issues" and you will see an extremely long list of well planned promises and plans for his presidency.

don't stay ignorant, thats how George Bush got elected in the first place.

Anyone who doesn't believe in evolution through natural selection needs to get their head out of their ass and go read some non-fiction.

Steve, I believe you voted for Bush last time is that correct? I think based on that you should vote for the opposite of who want to vote for currently. Future Steve will thank you.

Present Steve may be leaning towards McCain, Future Steve is all about some Obama.

McCain will be a puppet to the evangelicals. He has already caved by picking Palin (pro-life) or however the fuck you spell her name instead of who he really wanted to pick, his pal Lieberman (pro-choice).

Net neutrality is also a big issue. Not to mention reforming the copyright and drug sentencing laws, etc... All of which Obama is for and McCain is against.

Let me just clarify that I did not vote for Bush in last years election

Let me just clarify that by "last years election", I actually mean the previous election.

Let me also clarify that Collin is a terrorist.

wow! As Sontavas (don't know who he is but he's my new best friend) says, "Call home and let your mom talk some sense into you." By the way, hang up if dad gets to the phone first.

I wouldn't have expressed my thoughts in exactly the same manner, but I do agree wholeheartedly with the viewpoint expressed.

Enough damage has been done. God help the sucker who has to clean up Bush's mess. The self-righteous conservatives had their turn. Now let's give the Dems a chance.

Still love you, Mom

Wow, have you ever gotten this many responses from a post within a twelve hour period? Must have hit a nerve with the majority of your faithful readers.

Yeah, Obama's for the 2nd Ammendment OK. You believe that and you'd believe anything. Look at his record dudes. That pecker head is as arrogant and self-righteous as they come. None of these people have any business being in the position they are. Where the Hell is Colin Powell when we need him?? Still covered with Bush and Cheney poo, that's where.

That conservative bunghole named dad

Joe said...

Hey anonymous conservative bunghole named dad:

I suggest you actually take some time and learn about the candidates, Obama is very much pro-2nd amendment, he even put out a fact sheet which can be viewed here:

http://www.barackobama.com/pdf/issues/additional/Obama_FactSheet_Western_Sportsmen.pdf

"Barack
Obama believes the Second Amendment creates an individual right, and he respects the constitutional rights of
Americans to bear arms. He will protect the rights of hunters and other law-abiding Americans to purchase,
own, transport, and use guns."

Also, if you are a dad for real, you stand to lose the most from this election.

Obama has a plan to eliminate taxes for retired persons ENTIRELY. He also includes provisions for education and serious health care reform!

and he wants to reform social security...don't tell me that your for privatizing your social security benefits in a market like the one Bush created: where 9 of the top banks in the united states are narrowing escaping bankruptcy.

Seriously, this election is WAAAAAAY to important to sit around and not pay attention to the real issues.

Read between the lines Joe. I don't care what his factsheet says (link in your comment was not active - hopefully this one is). Here's his record on a bunch of issues, and on the 2nd Amendment he's weaving & dodging all over the place with the PC stuff. You have your opinion & I have mine - and we can express them both - that's what makes this country so great!

http://www.ontheissues.org/Barack_Obama.htm#Gun_Control

Hoosteady said...

I don't think anyone's going to be coming to take your guns, pops... Worst case, they ban assault rifles again, which they should. I think you and I both will be long gone before any type of major change to the 2nd ammendment gets passed.

Joe said...

yeah Pops, take a look at the link you sent me, you'll see his record is predominately voting to ban guns from getting in the hands of criminals, and to ban the grey-area sale of guns to people.

if you aren't a felon, and want to own a gun legally, Obama wants you to have your gun, or rather, he wants local communities to determine who gets to carry a gun.

And thats NOT an opinion: his record, the facts show that he is in favor of the second ammendment for most americans (felons, and criminals are obviously not included).

and secondly, we're facing some really really serious issues today beyond the 2nd amendment. This election is way to important to make that your deciding issue.

Why not address the war? how about our crumbling economy? what are your sons chances of ever getting to see his social security check? when you retire, will you have adequate medical coverage? how can you fix education in america if you don't even know high school level math and biology? How are we going to improve our infrastructure and energy crises?

those are real, tangible issues that you should really be thinking about. Don't worry, your guns are safe, now its time to really think about where this country is going.

Joe said...

...and to be quite honest saying something like "I don't care what his factsheet says" is a little ridiculous, don't you think?

We're getting ready to elect one of the most powerful positions in our government, and you aren't willing to take the time to peruse the factsheets about what these candidates are about? on either side?

WOW.

Hoosteady said...

In Pops defense, by saying "I don't care what the fact sheet says" I think he's implying that the fact sheets are often times a bunch of bs... it's easy to type up a list of things that you promise to do, every nominee does that. How many actually fully follow through on their promises though? It's near impossible. I think he's saying that he doesn't care what's said, it's what will be done, and more often than not, these "fact sheets" are just a way to please those whose votes the candidates are trying to get.

Correct me if I'm wrong, I just think you took his statement out of context.

I haven't yet viewing his voting history on topics pertaining to the 2nd ammendment, mainly b/c I don't really care... but I'll look into it tonight... I foresee another post coming.

On the other hand, I think my Mom would like to buy you guys dinner.

Thanks for all the chiming in from everyone. Joe you obviously feel strongly about Obama's campaign and want shit to finally change for the better here.

Pops,
Listen I’m sure that even I could pick one issue that I don’t agree with Obama, but being a one issue voter can be dangerous. From what Steve says your pro-choice, not a crazy Christian, not happy about the war in Iraq and probably not crazy about the fact that we are borrowing a trillion dollars from China to finance the war. Why does the fact that Obama will repeal the ban on assault rifles make these non-issues?

Steve says you don’t like the Government telling you what you can and cannot do, and I can understand that. But can you imagine someone someday telling there daughters who may have been raped that they have to go ahead and have the baby because the government thinks it’s morally wrong to have an abortion and has appointed Supreme Court justices that have made it illegal? That may seam a bit overboard but if Roe Vs. Wade gets overturned someday, somewhere that will happen. Talk about Gov control..

Dearest darling nephew Steve, If you'd like to be drafted into the military along with your 2 brothers, then I suggest you go ahead and vote for warmonger McCain. I'll tie a yellow ribbon for ya. Looking forward to seeing you in 2 weeks so I can slap some sense into you.

Wow, quite the post you got going here man. I'm unfortunately (or not) still undecided. I do know there needs to be a turning point in the way our country is going, but its going to take time to repair whats already been done. What is impressive to me is that which ever way the election goes, a milestone will be seen. A woman V.P. or black president. Unheard of not too long ago.

It seems to me this election's V.P. title holds just as much water as the Presidential title itself. Can morbid thoughts of ill health or assassination be playing an underlying role in a voter's choice? Possibly.

I don't think topics such as Roe v. Wade or the 2nd amendment are in danger starting next year. Human body choice and defensive rights are building blocks of the country that no mind-fucked conservative or sissy liberal can or should change at the drop of a hat. Pardon the pun, but I think we have bigger fish to fry to get this country back on track.
