CABJ

Today I was sitting outside at a restaurant at the RIO in Gaithersburg enjoying some lunch with my coworkers. I glanced at a window of the restaurant and in the reflection saw a bunch of Boca Juniors Megatone jerseys. As I turned around I expected to see a bunch of kids walking along the lake outside the restaurant, only to see 5 grown ass men.

I did a quick double take and realized I was looking at some of the Boca Juniors players!!! Palermo and some other players just casually strolled right by me as I was sitting there holding a taco trying to figure out what the hell was going on.

As they passed I turned to my 4 coworkers and was like "That's freaking Boca Juniors!" None of them follow soccer, so they looked at me blankly... but I was going nuts. I don't get worked up seeing "famous" people, but this was just so out of the blue, I was taken aback. I had no idea why the best Argentinian club team, who are always ranked in the top 20 by FIFA, would be walking around Maryland wearing their unis.

Long story short, I didn't try to get any autographs or pictures, I felt lame approaching them seeing as though I only know 2 or 3 of the players, and don't speak Spanish. But that's alright, there will be some more opportunities to do all that tomorrow when I go back there for lunch, and then again when I watch them train up at the Soccerplex in Germantown tomorrow night.

Turns out, they're here for about 10 days to train for their season... which is awesome!!! How often to you get to see world class players out in the public like that and then watch them train at a small facility? Only in America baby. Anywhere else and they'd be mobbed by people. Here, all but pretty much Riquelme and Palermo would go unnoticed by 99/100 people.

This is awesome, hopefully I'll post some pics tomorrow night with me and the players... stay tuned!!! I can't wait! Maybe I'll go up to Palermo tomorrow, take off my shirt and tie and try to do a jersey exchange with him like they do after the games.
